PostSubject: Advice please...Excessive tiredness   Tue Jan 28, 2014 8:47 pm

Good evening. I am hoping someone might to be able to advise me on how to deal with excessive tiredness? I was diagnosed with IIH in November 2012. Had a VP shunt sited, slightly improved. Had shunt revision in July 2013 as shunt had blocked...I had never felt better, really started to get life back on track.Left with some short term memory issues and tend to get words and speach jumbled up mainly when tired, but was luck enough to return to work full time in September 2013. Around Christmas time I noticed was feeling tired. Put it down to being a busy working mum of 2, but my tiredness seems to be getting worse...My family have noticed I am sleeping more, life seems to be work from 08.00-4PM in a secondary school reception, home and sleep....My husband is super supportive by running the house, looking after the children whilst also working full time....
I am not on any medication with the IIH, but am getting down with the tiredness...Is the tiredness normal with IIH? I'm not having severe headaches, just a heavy feeling in head more so when tired...

Any advice would be greatly received.. thank you

Zoe, have you had your blood levels checked recently?  I wonder if you may be low on something.
I don't think it is common for tiredness with IIH unless you are on meds.  Diamox especially will do that, the use of diuretics can deplete the system of things like potassium.  I would highly recommend you ring your GP and see about doing some checking on just what is causing the lack of energy.

May also be the weather changes, sinus and allergy symptoms increase cranial pressure too. If it's a change for you, I would recommend checking with your doctor. There are viruses, infections, and related illnesses that can cause these issues, so better safe than sorry.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Chronic pain, medication as well as the other symptoms of IIH can cause tiredness and fatigue. Have a read of this helpful booklet by our partners the Brain and Spine Foundation [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
